HOW TO: work out what size lawnmaster generator you need
In this step-by-step video, we’ll guide you through what LawnMaster generator you need!
Step by step guide:
- When working out the size of generator you require for your house, or camping trip, you need to be aware of the maximum power usage you need to run
- On the LawnMaster generator box, it states some common items and the approximate power usage measured in Watts.
- Particular care needs to be taken for working out the power usage of any electrical item that uses an electric motor.
- All electric motors use approximately 3 times the normal operating power usage when they first start up.
- If you have a 1000 watt pump, then you will need a generator that has an output of 3000 watts.
- Once the motor is running at its full speed, it will only consume the 1000 watt.
- Examples of equipment that have an electric motor to operate them are fridge/ freezers, pumps, drills, cake mixers, blenders and air compressors.
- If generators are overloaded they will trip the circuit breaker, but it is not good practice to be overloading a generator consistently.
- You also can factor in only running the equipment with an electric motor by itself, if it is an item not used consistently and will enable you to have a smaller sized generator
